In case you’re wondering…or interested….I’m STILL DOING IT!

5 Feb

Hey, peeps…in the kitchen…! 🙂

So, here I am…a couple weeks in…with my Green Smoothie adventure. I know…right…? Green smoothies sound so gross…ON ONE level…but tell me…when you hear about them…not just in passing, but in detail….(ingredients, what it does for your body, what it does for your well-being and balance)…tell me…aren’t you a LITTLE BIT curious and secretly WANT, NO! NEED to try one!?
Don’t be ashamed.
Don’t be afraid.
Don’t be disgusted.
Here is a little encouragement…I will start by telling you how I make mine.
(NOTE: These are Interior Alaska Sam’s Club prices…so I’m PRETTY SURE it’d be WAY CHEAPER in the Lower 48)
1/2 pound fresh clean Spinach (Sam’s Club $3.98 for one fresh organic pound)
2 cups frozen Mango Chunks (Sam’s Club $9.28 about $0.30-$0.60 a smoothie)
1 cup frozen Blueberries (Sam’s Club $10.78 about $0.25-$0.50 a smoothie)
1/4 cup pineapple chunks (Sam’s Club $7.38 for a case, $0.30 a smoothie)
1 large Banana  (Sam’s Club $2.45 (3# bunch, approx. 7), about $0.35 a smoothie)
1 Kiwi (Sam’s Club $5.88 (3# approx. 15 kiwis) (about $0.40 a smoothie)
In my Ninja Big Blender I put 2 cups of water in the base.
Then I STUFF 1/2 pound of fresh spinach in and blend, until smooth(ish) green…and thin.
(1/2 pound of spinach is half the container from Sam’s Club…fyi)
I then add a peeled kiwi and blend. I place the frozen fruit in a bowl and throw it in the microwave for 1 minute. Then I add the fruit to the Ninja and blend until smooth.
(I like mine less slushy…if you want a slushy effect, or have a REALLY POWERFUL blender, you can just throw them in frozen…but I don’t like COLD COLD stuff.)
Next, I add the banana and blend, again.
Then I drink it, and sip on it…and I LOVE IT! ❤
So, about $4.15 on the high side, if I put the most amount in each smoothie…NOT BAD! That gives me a 1 quart jar, and a 16 oz. double walled cold cup. That also gives me about 10-15 servings of vegetables and fruits all together. And I drink them, and maybe another 16 oz. serving as well, in the day.
THE BEST PART: I make a smoothie similar to that, above, with a few replacements, and such, and my children DEVOUR THEM! That means, I am giving my children their whole days worth of vegetable and fruit nutrition needs, for $1.38 each! DID YOU HEAR THAT? The ONE DOLLAR and THIRTY-EIGHT CENTS that I spent to make that smoothie has THESE effects on my children…FROM THEIR VERY OWN MOUTHS:
They sleep better.
Relieve headaches.
Gives a lot of energy.
I never even KNEW my kids had regular headaches! It was so normal for them, they didn’t really complain about them.
(Not to mention, the cancer fighting, brain building, organ nourishing, whole-health giving the vegetables and fruits have on them…!)
Here a few fun and interesting links I’ve found…as I’ve hunted around.
Eat Sprouts . com  (While I don’t personally agree with everything she embraces, her information is fabulous.) (For example: I will eat fish and chicken and red meats still…just less and less often.)
And if you just dink around online, and really start looking for things that YOU need, for example, I am interested in healthier skin, loosing weight (though I’m not going on a DIET…per sa), better night vision, healthier hair, etc…and the list goes on. The BIGGEST benefit that I’m STILL experiencing is the total annihilation of CRAVINGS!  It was, and is, and likely always WILL BE, the most favorably unexpected side effect of HEALTHFUL NUTRITION that I’ve experienced in MY LIFE! I can’t say how much I love it! AND, interestingly enough, if I don’t have at least 2-3 quarts of green smoothie again, I CAN COUNT ON THEM RETURNING! And the MOMENT I nourish myself with several ‘servings’ of veggies and fruits, it’s GONEZO!
I love learning how to LOVE and NOURISH my body…and I LOVE sharing this LEGACY with my children!
Oh, oh…and I’ve added GRAPES to my smoothies…that’s fun! 🙂 And I’ve started serving spinach salad with dinner…and last night, it melted my heart as EVERYONE DOVE INTO THEIR SALADS before even touching the amazing chicken and rice and cashew, carrot ginger soup yumminess. I garnished the salad with cucumbers, grape tomatoes, green grapes, and sprinkled about 1 tablespoon of sunflower seeds and 5-6 croutons…you’d have thought they were eating filet mignon…the way they oooohhhhed and ahhhhhhed over it…it made me giggle inside.
Did I mention I love grapes?
So, for MYSELF, I’ll list the effects the green smoothies has had on ME:
I sleep better.
I have virtually zero cravings.
I have few headaches, and less frequent.
I do not enjoy sweets as much…and don’t miss it.
I enjoy tea, unsweetened…which is way more beneficial for me in the first place.
My taste buds seem to have been RESET…and I TASTE FOOD NOW!
It’s NOT hard TO DO THIS…and therefore, it’s one of the EASIEST most EFFECTIVE changes to my lifestyle I’ve ever made.
I love finding healthful, WHOLE ways to address any health issues I have, and look into and learn more about PREVENTATIVE health, starting with ME and overflowing onto my FAMILY. 🙂
I’m just more happy.
I am WAY more relaxed.
There…that’s me, and my new buddy, Green Smoothie. 😉
What do you think about when you hear about green smoothies, and when you read what I’m experiencing? Your thoughts….?

🙂 My FAVORITE part of green smoothies is that you just make what you like.
I prefer to have LOTS of veggies, less fruits. I feel more satisfied with the greens and my cravings don’t exist when I’m drinking my smoothies. I am more satisfied. I think I got so hooked on feeling GOOD, that I was forgetting to make some fun drinks, and enjoy the benefits of those fruity wonders. The other day I made a JUICE with my juicer…green apple, pineapple and ginger. Ginger and Pineapple are HIGHLY BENEFICIAL for me (my blood type, and they respond like medicine in my body, repairing and supporting my body…yay!) It was SOOOOO good. An apple, 1/4 pineapple peeled and 1/4 inch slice of ginger root made about 1 cup of juice. Delish!
